Why an In-Home Consultation When Looking for a Tutor?

This gives us an opportunity to meet you and your child to assess their academic requirements, personality and learning style as well as discuss your goals for the tutoring sessions. We invest the time to meet face-to-face with all of our clients which is invaluable for us to find the perfect tutor for your child!

A question I get asked a lot is “Why do you insist on going out to the home first to meet the student and parent before you make the match between the tutor and the student that is in need of tutoring?  My answer is simple.

I am NOT a phone-order operation and when a parent calls and talks to me in detail about why their student is in need of a tutor, it is virtually impossible to go through my list of tutors and send a tutor over to the home sight unseen that will work out well.  I really like to meet the student to find out about their personality, the subjects they are struggling with and their learning style.  And so that when I match a tutor with the student I am also matching those 3 criteria….academic needs, learning style and personality.  If I try to do that over the phone, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am by going out to the home.  There is no charge for the consultation.

Different students need different types of tutors.  A young, shy girl might do better with a female tutor who is a little outgoing, nurturing and is able to bring her out of her shell as well as help her with her academic subjects.  Whereas a sullen male teenage often does better with a male tutor because sometimes they need that male figure in their life that they can talk to about their interests which is usually sports and male-related topics and I finds that male teenage boys usually do better overall with a male tutor.

That is why I come out to your home for the consultation.  If you are looking at other tutoring companies for your child, and they don’t come out for a home visit, you should really think twice about using them.  It is really that on-on-one connection that needs to be made so that your student’s tutoring will be most successful!
